Are you ready to take your Cosplay to the next level?

SMASH & WCS Australia brings you the World Cosplay Summit Competition, giving  you & a close friend the chance to compete in cosplay together & win yourselves a trip to Nagoya, Japan & the opportunity to participate in the World Cosplay Summit Japan 2020, with currently +40 countries competing.


The World Cosplay Summit (WCS) is a competition focused around cosplay (costuming & performance), it is coordinated by WCS inc. The competition grows each year & currently unites +40 different countries & invites them to compete against each other every year during summer in Nagoya, Japan. Australia being one of those countries represented. The current list of countries participating is: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rico,  Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, U.K., India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, UAE, The United States, Hong Kong, Taiwan, The Philippines, Portugal, Puerto Rico & Vietnam.

Each country gets to elect their best cosplay duo to represent their country. The competition is held every summer in Nagoya, Japan. There are numerous prizes to be won at this competition, with the most honored title being the World Cosplay Summit Grand Champion

The event typically spans over 10 days with multiple tourist location sights visits, Japanese cultural experiences & often getting to meet celebrities & Japanese Government officials.

It is a once in a life time experience like no other.


The WCS Australia organize WCS events across Australia, and to promote an affinity towards cosplay within the Australian community. The competition currently brings together currently +40 different countries and invites them to compete against each other every year during the summer in Nagoya, Japan; where in this process WCS Australia works hard to select Australia’s best cosplay duo by holding a pre-selection round just for Australia at SMASH!

The Winning cosplay Duo gets the Title of Australia’s World Cosplay Summit Representatives & win a trip together to Nagoya, Japan to represent Australia in the World Cosplay Summit Japan that following year.

In association with Japan Airlines (JAL), WCS Australia coordinates the Japanese leg of the finals held in Nagoya, Japan – with SMASH and JAL offering free flights for the winning team, and WCS Japan providing various support leading up to the event.

SMASH! – Sydney International Convention Centre – 13th and 14th of July 2019

Why is this important? 
Although this is an optional part of your WCS entry, submitting an Expression of Interest means you get priority over last minute entries.
You get sent reminders for important deadline dates by WCS Australia.
You get notifications directly if rules change, or any other important competition related updates.
You’ll also get notifications for Rehearsal & Pre-judging times.

This is a compulsory part of Participating in the World Cosplay Summit Competition.

Entries without portfolio submissions delivered by the due date will not be allowed to compete.



Prizes are subject to change as we collect more sponsors throughout the year, we’ll try our best to keep this up to date with changes.

1st Place –

Win a trip for 2 to Japan (Tokyo & Nagoya), courtesy of JAL – Japan Airlines. Winners must have valid passports & be free to travel in late July to early August for the year of their WCS Japan Participation. (Teams who win the Australian 2019 selection will be participating in WCS Japan for 2020)

2x WCS Award of Invitation plaque. Guaranteeing entry into the World Cosplay Summit Japan, where they can compete against +40 countries for the title of Grand Champion of Cosplay.

Approximately 10-days of paid accommodation & bus travel as required for the WCS events. Most meals also covered.

A WCS Australia volunteer organiser will accompany the team & look after their needs in the lead up as well as during the competition.

2nd Place –

1x Janome Skyline 3 sewing & quilting computerised machine, valued at $1’499RRP.

2x Unique WCS Australia trophies.

3rd Place –

1x Janome 8002DX overlocking machine, valued at $599RRP.

A WCS merchandise bag filled with lots of rare WCS merchandise from Japan.
